Lily the Duckling’s Sunny Day at the Pond
On a little pond, where the lily pads shone like green plates and the water was clear as a mirror, lived a small duckling named Lily. But Lily wasn’t just any duckling. She had soft, white feathers and a tiny yellow bow on her head. Whenever she felt happy, her bow gave a cheerful little wiggle: “Frrr, frrr!” That was the sign Lily was feeling oh-so joyful.
One morning, as the sun lifted its golden head above the horizon, Lily stretched and sniffed the fresh air. She instantly knew. This would be a day full of play. “Quack, quack! The sun is shining!” she called out happily. She gazed at the sky where fluffy white clouds floated like pieces of cotton. One looked just like an egg. Another looked like a big, fuzzy duck. Lily burst out laughing.
All day long, she scampered up and down the pond’s shore, her little webbed feet splashing cheerfully and her bow dancing like a tiny performer. At one point, she decided to take a rest. She plopped down in the green grass by the pond. Oh, it felt so nice! The grass hugged her like a best friend. The smell of fresh grass and cool water made her sleepy. She closed her eyes for a moment, smiling.
When she opened them again, she noticed a small frog with big, round eyes watching her from afar. He was sitting on a lily pad right in front of her beak. “Quack, quack, froggie! Want to play tag?” Lily asked excitedly. The frog waved his little front legs and gently hopped into the water. Lily waddled quickly after him and splashed in, too. Together they swam all around the pond until the sun began to slowly dip down.
As the day came to an end, Lily returned to her favourite spot on the shore. Tired but happy, she lay down and flapped her wings to show just how much she had enjoyed the day. “Oh, what a wonderful day,” she murmured. “And tomorrow… tomorrow I might find another new friend to play with. Maybe one who will help me with a very important task…”

Little Artist’s Challenge
Dear little friend, can you see Lily smiling at you? She’s waiting for you to bring her to life with colours. What will you choose? Will she have yellow feathers? Or maybe white ones with bright yellow feet? And what about her bow? Will you draw some bow on Lily’s head? Grab your crayons, markers, or paints and make Lily even happier. Once you colour her in, she’ll come alive and smile at you even more!
