The Story of the Wiggly Kids and the Magical Soup

It was lunchtime at Little Sunshine Preschool. The children were gathered around bright little tables while Ms. Jane carried in bowls of warm, fragrant soup. “Hands in your laps, everyone, and let’s wait patiently,” she smiled. But sitting still isn’t easy when you’re only three!

“I’m starving!” shouted Jack, drumming his spoon on the table. Bang, bang, bang! It echoed through the room like a rock concert. “Jack, spoons are for soup, not for drumming,” Ms. Jane said gently. But Jack just giggled and kept banging.

Next to him sat Sophie, with a bowl of colorful noodle soup in front of her. She scooped some up and… splat! Noodles landed on the tablecloth. “Look, I’m painting with my soup!” she giggled, smearing carrots with her finger.

Tommy was more interested in his favorite blue toy car than his spoon. “Vroom, vroom!” he zoomed it around his bowl, pretending the table was a racetrack. Now and then, the wheels dipped into the soup, and he squealed with delight.

Ms. Jane stood in the middle of the room, hands on her hips, surveying the chaos. Soup on the table, carrots on the floor, and now Emma had joined Jack’s “band,” drumming with her fork. “Alright, that’s enough!” she said firmly but kindly. She took a deep breath. “Let’s play a magic game – The Quiet, Clean Table Game.” The children froze, curious.

“Imagine your spoon is a magic wand,” she said softly. “If you hold it carefully, it makes the most delicious food in the world. But if you bang it, the magic disappears.”

The children looked at their spoons in wonder. “And guess what?” she whispered. “The soup is magical too! Whoever eats it nicely will get superpowers. Run faster than a rabbit and build the tallest block towers.”
“Really?” Sophie gasped. “Really. But only if we eat calmly. Magic soup likes quiet.”

And suddenly, something amazing happened. Jack scooped a spoonful of soup, not a drop spilled. Tommy put down his car and picked up his spoon. The whole table fell quiet, with only the sound of clinking spoons and happy slurps.

Later, during playtime, Tommy built a block tower taller than himself.
“The soup really was magic!” he laughed. And Ms. Jane smiled to herself, already planning a magical story for tomorrow’s mashed potatoes.

Short Version for Little Wigglers

It was lunchtime at Little Sunshine Preschool. The children waited for soup, but sitting still didn’t last long. Jack drummed his spoon on the table: Bang, bang, bang! Sophie “painted” with her noodles, and Tommy raced his toy car through his soup. Ms. Jane sighed. “What is happening here?” The table looked like a storm had hit. Then she smiled. “Let’s play a magic game. Every spoon is a magic wand. If we eat nicely, the soup gives us magic powers. But if we bang or spill, the magic disappears.” The kids went quiet. Jack carefully took a spoonful, Tommy put his car down, and soon the room was calm. Just soft clinks and happy slurps.
After lunch, Tommy built a block tower taller than himself. “The soup was magic!” he laughed.
And Ms. Jane thought, Tomorrow, mashed potatoes will have their own magic story.
